Le Bardo Thödol meaning liberation by listening in the intermediate states and published in French under the title of Tibetan Book of the Dead is a text of Tibetan Buddhism describing the states of consciousness and the perceptions which follow one another during the period which extends from death to rebirth. Studying while alive or having a llama recite the main chapter in dying or after death is believed to help release the cycle of reincarnations, or at least achieve better reincarnation.
