Lhe African symbols of Egypt are well known, but now is the time to discover several African symbols especially of West Africa, called Adinkra . Adinkra are visual symbols, originally created by the Ashanti of Ghana and the Gyaman of Ivory Coast in West Africa. They represent concepts or aphorisms, and are widely used in fabrics, pottery, logos and advertising. Symbols have a decorative function, but also represent objects that encapsulate evocative messages that convey traditional wisdom, aspects of life or the environment. The collection below is the work of Jean MacDonald , and is aimed at African artists and designers inspiration in logo, websites, clothing, jewelry and fashion design, not to mention for tattoos .
