THEwriter and politician Aminata Traoré reacts to French interventions in Mali and the Central African Republic. Aminata Traoré, former Malian minister and anti-globalization activist, was critical from the start of the Serval intervention in Mali.
You are critical of the French interventions in Mali and the Central African Republic. Why ?
Problems linked to the international economic policy carried out for more than thirty years in Africa cannot be solved by arms. We must go back to the origins of the problem: The international financing institutions, in which France participates, did not develop Africa but, on the contrary, weakened it, secreting unemployment and poverty. Among the terrorists there are also desperate young people with no future. We find them among the jihadists in Mali or within the Seleka. The common points between Mali and the Central African Republic are the profile of the actors, the root causes of destabilization and militarization.
