Lhe Solar Roadways project consists of covering roads, sidewalks and car parks with slabs fitted with sensors. Solar panels are fine, but large scale installations take up space. Hence the idea of having it on spaces already used for something else.
This is the idea of Scott Brusaw, an American electrical engineer who, at his home in Idaho, set up the Solar Roadways project aiming to cover roads, car parks, sidewalks with huge solar energy collectors, capable of immediately redistributing the electricity thus produced in the surrounding area, in a completely decentralized manner: buildings, shops, signage, urban lighting.
Presentation of the Solar Roadways project
Scott Brusaw launched the 21 last April a public campaign via the Indiegogo website. Objective: to raise $ 1 million by May 31 to move to the production phase of the system. Because a prototype has already been produced by the engineer, along his garage, with the help of the Federal Highway Administration which, interested in the project, allocated $ 750000.
