Lhe hopis are a tribe of Indians who live in Arizona (USA), on high desert plateaus. Their name means the peaceful ones. Their elders are spiritual leaders who carry wisdom and traditions. For a long time, they only shared snippets of their knowledge with the whites, since they were not respected. Times have changed and some are delivering their messages of peace and calling on all of humanity to choose to change their mentality and way of life.
The beginning of life
We were created somewhere in the underworld by the Great Spirit, the Creator. He created us first one, then two, then three. We were created equal, in unity, living spiritually, where life is eternal. We were happy and at peace with our fellow human beings. Everything was abundant, provided by our Mother Earth on which we had been placed. We didn't have to plant or work to get food. The illness and the difficulties were unknown. For many years we have lived happily ever after and our numbers have continued to increase.
When the Great Spirit created us, he also gave us instructions or laws that we had to respect. We promised him to respect them in order to be able to remain peaceful, using them as rules to live happily on this earth where he had created and placed us. But from the beginning, he warns us that we should not be tempted by certain things that could make us lose this perfect way of life.
