Yanga arrived on the shores of New Mexico, in the port of Veracruz, at the age of 12. Son of a king of the new Ghana, the other slaves will quickly gather around him. He spent ten years on the Providence plantation before escaping. Then, he becomes a great friend with the owner of the land on which he took refuge, Gaspard de Rivel who will protect him from the authorities. To survive, the people of Yanga attacked the caravans of goods that linked Mexico City to the port of Veracruz. The group was composed mainly of blacks, but also of Europeans and mestizos fleeing the authorities. They kept the weapons, the clothes and the food and handed over the stolen gold to Gaspard de Rivel. Until the day when, feeling ready to free themselves, they wage a merciless war against the kingdom of New Spain which will grant them, in 1609, freedom without condition or compensation. (200 years before the birth of the 1st Black Republic of Haiti). In 1618, was founded the locality of the name of San Lorenzo de los Negros, currently known as: YANGA, Veracruz, Mexico.
