Iimitate Christ and despise all the vanities on earth. “He who follows me will not walk in darkness,” says the Lord. By these words we are exhorted to imitate his life and habits, if we wish to be truly enlightened and free from all blindness of heart. Let therefore our supreme effort be to study the life of Jesus Christ. The teaching of Christ is more excellent than all the counsels of the saints, and he who has his mind will find in this teaching a hidden manna. Now, there are many who often hear the gospel but care little because they don't have the mind of Christ. However, anyone who desires to fully understand the words of Christ must attempt to conform his entire life to that of Christ. What good is there in speaking eruditely of the Trinity if, through lack of humility, you displease the Trinity? Indeed, it is not education that makes a man holy and righteous, but it is a virtuous life that makes him acceptable to God. I would rather feel contrition than know how to define it. For, how would it benefit us to know the whole Bible by heart and the principles of all the philosophers if we live without the grace and without the love of God? Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity, except to love God and serve him alone. This is the greatest wisdom. To seek the kingdom of heaven through the contempt of the world. So try to turn away from visible things to get closer to invisible things.
