Ivan Van sertima is a very well respected anthropologist from Rutgers University who caused a real earthquake in 1977 with the publication of his book They came before Colombus: the African Presence in Ancient America. ).
From 1957 to 1959, he worked in a press house in Guyana. During the 60s, he made several trips between England, Africa and the Caribbean. He has to his credit several novels of Caribbean literature, and a few reviews published in various countries (Denmark, India, England and the United States). Van Sertima began his work in 1970 after discovering the existence of African influences in the language of several pre-Columbian peoples of Central and South America. Following the analysis of these similarities and the parallel study of a series of isolated archaeological sites, he arrived at the same conclusion that brings together the core of heterodox researchers, always expanding: Black travelers and explorers from Africa discovered America. Their travels were either spontaneous or planned, and the latter were intended to develop the silver and bronze trade with Native Americans. Traces of this black presence are particularly abundant in Mexico.
