Nikola Tesla, one of the most extraordinary inventors of all time, was born on the night of July 9 to 10, 1856 in Smiljan (Croatia) then dependent on the Austro-Hungarian Empire. He died poor, almost forgotten, on January 7, 1943. In the meantime, he was one of the most endearing, the most inspired researchers, one of the most fruitful minds of all mankind, and arguably the most “ crazy ”in the noble sense of the term. Author of nearly 1000 patents dealing with electrical energy, its production and its conservation, recipient of fourteen doctorates from universities around the world and mastering 12 languages, this man who enlightened the world, died after having known in turn turn fame, fortune, jealousy, misunderstanding, mockery and discredit.
His life as a giant of science was that of a meteor, a shooting star, a dazzling star disappearing in a black hole. After having illuminated the earth, enlightened men, this inventor and prophet, died in the sinister gleam of a merciless war, with the pathetic feeling of seeing his work plundered, desecrated and essentially: misunderstood.
