Amy Mazama, Afro-Caribbean native of the Guadeloupe, brilliantly obtained his doctorate in linguistics in 1987 at the New Sorbonne University. She is known as a fervent supporter of the philosophy of Afrocentricity alongside Professor Molefi Kete Asante with whom she teaches at Temple University in the USA, in the first department which organized a doctorate in African study. She is the author of numerous books advocating this philosophical position, including “The Afrocentric Imperative” published in 2003.
Ama Mazama defines Afrocentricity as "a philosophical position urging Africans to to apprehend the black world according to their own experience, their experiences, their deeply rooted perception of African culture and history. In other words, to think of Africa through an African perspective, in an African perspective ”.
