Cheikh Anta Diop (born December 29, 1923 in Thieytou and died February 7, 1986 in Dakar) is a Senegalese historian, anthropologist, Egyptologist and politician. He emphasized the contribution of Africa and in particular black Africa to world culture and civilization. His theses remain discussed today, and are seldom taken up in the scientific community, in particular on the subject of ancient Egypt. Cheikh Anta Diop was, however, a forerunner in terms of the importance and age of the place of Africans in history, confirmed by current studies.
