THEteaching that I am about to deliver is based on the Soutta Antevasika of Samyutta Nikaya. Antevasika means the inner disciple. In the 8 worldly conditions, where does the disciple fit? Do you know what the 8 worldly conditions are? They are gain and loss, glory and decline, pleasure and pain, praise and blame. If one places the inner disciple in one of the pairs of these 8 worldly conditions, he will have to be included in glory and decline, which also means abundance of followers and scarcity of followers. The teachers have students, the monks have disciples. Students and disciples are their followers, and if they have many students and disciples, they will be very happy. Who doesn't want to have a lot of followers? Disciples here means inner disciples. Is it good to have inner disciples? Well, what do you say?
I know whether it is good or not to have inner disciples because I have them. I feel like most of you here tonight would like to have inner disciples. When Buddha mentioned the inner disciple, was he referring to the abundance of followers or the scarcity of followers? We have to dazzle this in depth. Tonight I am going to share with you what Buddha really meant. I guarantee you it will open your eyes and make you think more deeply and seriously about what Buddha taught us. This Dhamma is so rich in essence, I will begin by reciting the word of Buddha to you.
