Active life and insomnia
SAccording to a study carried out in January 2017, nearly 75% of Belgians say they suffer from insomnia. What are the consequences of poor quality sleep? Fatigue of course, but also a poor ability to concentrate, mood disorders, the tendency to snack and eat sweet things, decrease in energy, libido and so on ...
But why these insomnia? There are several factors, but most insomnia is caused by stress, anxiety and depression. Work, difficult relationships with loved ones, the current health crisis, the abuse of screens, poor diet, the frantic pace of the consumer society exhaust us psychically and prevent us from sleeping well.
How to sleep when you are hypertensive by our daily activities and that we are all the time in control and on the alert? And how can you be efficient in your activities and maintain healthy and peaceful relationships with loved ones, colleagues and others if you are exhausted? A real vicious circle.
Logically, the solution is to find a balance between action and rest. However, there is an imbalance between the multitudes of actions, the “doing” and the moments of rest, of regeneration, of recharging the batteries, of “doing nothing”, just as important.
Hypersensitive people being even more sensitive to external stimuli and emotions will often have significant sleep disturbances because despite their fatigue, they tend to rumination and their brain will not be able to rest when they go to bed.
So what to do? You have to accept to slow down, to take breaks during the day, to lighten your schedule, to say no to the requests of others, to stop the screens at least 1 hour before going to sleep, to avoid alcohol the evening. Think about your well-being and take time to learn relaxation techniques that work very well if applied regularly to release tight muscles and soothe the restless mind.
Nothing is easy but sleep is so important it's worth a try. I myself have suffered from insomnia and sleep disturbances for years and the work on myself, the practice of breathing meditation and conscious sleep yoga have helped me a lot in improving my sleep. , in an ecological way if I may say so, without sleeping pills.
After all, we are not machines.
