En 1837, Kwasi and Kwame, two young African princes, are offered to King William I of Orange to serve as a surety for an illegal slave trade organized by the Dutch government.
Schooled and educated like Dutch boys in a boarding school in Delft, young blacks are gradually forgetting their language and their customs. They are baptized and presented as curiosities at the court of The Hague, where they become friends of the royal family.
