LAfricans did not become Christians by their own will, but rather, by force. African history reveals that African people had a perfect knowledge of God. Because, since the most distant antiquity, the ancient Ethiopians, ancestors of the Egyptians, had revealed the first, the uniqueness of God and his role as creator of the visible and invisible universe.
But 1685, things have radically changed for the Africans deported to the French colonies. These had only 8 days to be baptized as a Christian. It is enough to reread article 2 of the black code of Louis 14, to understand the origins of the current amnesia: “All the slaves who will be in our islands will be baptized and educated in the Catholic, Apostolic and Roman religion. Let us enjoin the inhabitants who buy newly arrived negroes to notify the governors and intendants of the said islands within a week at the latest, on pain of an arbitrary fine, who will give the necessary orders to have them educated and baptized in due time ”.
