THErainbow which, as Danièle Chauvin mentions, is “symbol of bodily death, of rebirth to the Spirit: form-figure of the Last Judgment, form-figure of the Apocalypse, sign of the newly found alliance after the crossing of history and time ”(Danièle Chauvin, L'Œuvre de William Blake, Apocalypse et transfiguration, p.227) is omnipresent in the initiatory traditionality of black peoples. To understand this specific aspect of the Kemite tradition, we must refer to the Nyambè locution which designates the supreme God among most of the peoples of Africa south of the Sahara.
For example, this name is used for the divinity among the Adjuru of Ivory Coast (Nyam), the Akan of Ghana (Nyame), the Bakongo of Angola (Nzambi), the Fang of Equatorial Guinea (Nzambé), the Bamiléké from Cameroon (Nyamsi), Barotse from Zambia (Nyambe), Baya from Central Africa (Zambi), Chokwe from Angola (Zambi), Fanti from Ghana (Nyame), Douala from Cameroon (Nyambè), Basaâ from Cameroon (Nyambè), the Lele from Congo (Njambi), etc. Names such as Zambia, Mozambique or Zambezi are directly inspired by this divine phrase.
