Lhe charter of Manden, charter of Mandé, charter of Kouroukan Fouga, or even, in the Malinké language, Manden Kalikan, is the transcription of an oral content, which dates back to the reign of the first sovereign Soundiata Keita who lived from 1190 to 1255. It would have been solemnly proclaimed on the day of the enthronement of Soundiata Keïta as emperor of Mali at the end of the year 1236. In the 18th century, while he was completing the construction of the Mali empire, the sovereign Soundjata Keïta united the notables so that they establish a charter of common life. Passed down from generation to generation, the Mandé charter is based on values still deeply rooted in Sudano-Sahelian society. This African declaration of human rights constitutes a major contribution to the great planetary conversation on the fate of our humanity.
