Dn the 12th to the 15th century, in West Africa an empire spread, the legends of which are still reported by griots today: the Empire of Mali.
The formation of the Empire of Mali
• It was around 1230, at the same time as the beginning of the reign of Saint-Louis in France, that Soundjata Keita succeeds in unifying the kingdoms of the region which extends from the Atlantic to the interior delta of Niger. He thus founded the Empire of Mali and then took the title of “Mansa”, which means “king of kings”. Despite its somewhat legendary appearance, Soundjata Keita really did exist, which XNUMXth century Arab historians confirm.
