ABefore the advent of churches, mosques, the Bible or the Koran, Africans resorted to the traditional values transmitted by their ancestors. These values were rooted in the notions of solidarity, development and preservation of communities. When the Bible and the Koran were introduced to Africa, the values and ethics contained in these religious writings seemed compatible with traditional thinking and Africans adopted them to complement indigenous skills in conflict transformation. Like many Africanists, Fidèle Lumeya is convinced that African religion does not deviate at all from Judeo-Christian logic. On the contrary, it is like a telescope through which Africans interpret God and the world, a present-absent God. Present because its omnipresence is felt in the daily life of African men and women. Absent because it can neither be seen nor touched. With regard to conflicts and the reconstruction of peace, African religion is in symbiosis with the three Abrahamic religions namely: Judaism, Islam and Christianity. This book explores the ethics of peacebuilding according to African religion, but from an Afro-Christian perspective.
