Dn the city of Colorado Springs, policeman Ron Stallworth works in the archives. As the first African-American police officer in the local police, he is subjected to racialized language from some of his colleagues. Wishing to change position, he obtains from the chief of police Bridges a temporary mission of infiltration in a meeting organized by the union of African-American students of the city, for the arrival of the leader Black Panther Stokely Carmichael. At the meeting, Stallworth meets Patrice Dumas, the president of the student organization, with whom he has a drink after the meeting. Stokely Carmichael, now known as Kwame Ture, gives a very inspirational speech, calling on black students to reflect on their condition. As an aside, he confides to Stallworth that the race war is near and that he must arm himself for the impending conflict with the whites. While this sort of talk sounds disturbing to Chief Bridges, Stallworth and his mission teammates, Philippe “Flip” Zimmerman and Jimmy Creek, deem these words not yet a prelude to particular acts. Chief Bridges decides to give Stallworth a chance and has him join the intelligence service.
