TEnglish college kings were honored in a design competition for creating a smart condom that changes color when it detects a sexually transmitted infection, reports The Independent.
On the latex of the condom, the three students added molecules that cling to bacteria from several sexually transmitted infections, inducing fluorescence and a slight change in color. According to the forecasts of schoolchildren, the condom will become green for chlamydia, yellow for herpes, purple for papillomavirus and blue for syphilis. Using this smart condom might be a bit awkward for couples, but the three middle school students believe this transparency will reduce infection rates.
