LMayor Rahm Emanuel opened the new Malcolm X University of Medical and Health Sciences. The university cost $251 million. It will serve as the system's hub for health care programs and prepare students for the region's upcoming 84000 health care jobs over the next decade. “We are revolutionizing the educational model by linking highly specialized, technical study programs with the needs of our local employers. We are creating a direct bridge between students and 21st century jobs,” said Mayor Emanuel. The new campus will include a virtual hospital, skills and simulation labs, as well as space for adult general education education programs. The new Malcolm X University will be a centerpiece for Chicagoans to be prepared for careers in growing fields like health care.
