Phad before his hanging, Albert wrote to Lucy: "You are a woman of the people, and I entrust you to the people…". The Congress of Socialist Workers which was held in Paris in 1889 declared May 1 as the International Workers' Day. It was in homage to the five martyrs of Chicago. The following year, this day was commemorated for the first time. Lucy was already known as "the Mexican widow of the Chicago martyrs".
Again, in 1920, the Chicago police considered Lucy Gonzàles "more dangerous than a thousand revolutionaries".
