Lhe fast is a tradition that was an integral part of many ancient cultures, from Vedic to Buddhist and beyond, fasting should not be confused with starvation. It is the process of restricting yourself and controlling the sensory experience of eating, and at the same time making sure that you are doing it right. When I fast I usually do water fasts and have been doing this for almost eight years now and still feel good and energized after doing it.
1. Fasting helps protect against brain diseases
Researchers at the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore have found evidence that fasting for one or two days a week can prevent the effects of Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Research has also found that reducing daily intake by 500 calories per day for two out of seven days may show clear beneficial effects for the brain.
