Uhe research team led by Michel De Waard, research director at Inserm within the Grenoble Institute of Neurosciences (Inserm, Joseph Fourier University, CNRS) in Grenoble, discovered that an African medicinal plant produced large quantities of molecules Pain killer. More surprisingly, after analysis, the molecule turned out to be identical to Tramadol, a pure synthetic drug widely used as an analgesic throughout the world. According to the researchers, this is the first time that a synthetic drug from the pharmaceutical industry has been discovered in high concentrations in a natural source. This unprecedented discovery has just been published in the journal de chimie, Angewandte Chemie.
